The event was promoted to over twenty computing/IT companies, current SERC students, HLA applicants, and companies such as FinTrU, NI Cyber Security Center, and Lisburn City Council.
The day was broken into 2 parts. The first part involved employers receiving feedback about their needs from SERC students, and the other part was to give SERC students an opportunity to speak to potential employers. Afterwards, the School of Computing Management Team gave presentations on the current curriculum and the courses on offer at SERC. This was followed by a tour of the SPACE building and an opportunity to chat with students about their current projects.
A formal Q&A session with employers and over 40 of SERC Level 3 and Level 4 students was run via MS Teams with students joining from SERC Lisburn, Downpatrick and Bangor Campuses, alongside HLA applicants who joined the session in person. Face to face conversations between HLA applicants and employers continued during lunch as employers gave useful and informative feedback around interview tips, skills employers are looking for, and what should be included on a CV.
The event finished with a forum where employers gave feedback to the SERC team around areas such as student skills gaps, a review of current curriculum provision and suggestions for future provision.
