South Eastern Regional College’s (SERC’s) Downpatrick Campus is launching a brand new course called “Be Your Own Boss”, which offers local people the opportunity to learn some of the skills and knowledge required to start up and run your own business. The course is free to attend thanks to support from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.

Catherine Shipman, Head of Engagement at SERC, says “Be Your Own Boss is ideal for anyone who has ever dreamed of working for themselves. Our expert team will help develop ideas with this free, fun and interactive course. The class will give participants the skills, and enabling the thinking, that will lead to a successful business.  On the Be Your Own Boss course, you’ll also grow in confidence and meet new people, all while gaining a recognised qualification.”

The course will run at SERC Downpatrick Campus, with classes every Wednesday from 9:30 am- 12:30pm from 29 November. Students will be eligible for a free lunch voucher and will be able to attend a free graduation ceremony upon completion of the course.

This is an exciting partnership between County Down Rural Community Network, the Men’s Shed and local entrepreneurs, who will support SERC in delivering the course.

Participants must be a resident in the Downpatrick area and be over 18 years old. Application does not guarantee a place on the programme.
