Six apprentices from SERC’s Downpatrick and Lisburn Campuses put their skills to the test in the annual Light Vehicle Intercampus Competition.

All participants are completing the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Maintenance and Repair (Light Vehicle). First place went to Sam McCaw (19), from Lisburn, who is employed by Jackson Auto Repair; second place went to Stanislav Rudakov (19), from Lisburn, who is employed by Donnelly Group; and Adam Hession (22) from Crossgar, employed by Terry King & Sons in Newcastle, lifted third place.

The apprentices were tested on Vehicle Inspection, Chassis Electrical Faults, Braking Systems, Wheel Alignment, Engine Management Faults and Engine Measurement.   Sam Simpson, Motor Vehicle Technician said, “The apprentices were all tested on areas they would all be very familiar with as part of their everyday jobs and the very high standard on display was a reflection of the skills and experience all the competitors have gained through their apprenticeship to date.   It was a tight competition, and all participants are to be commended.   The winner will now represent SERC at the Intercollege Competition in March.”
