Apprenticeship Route for Matthew Video Testimonial

Over the next two weeks we will be sharing video testimonials from students who have followed different pathways at SERC, including higher education, further education, and apprenticeship programmes.

Today, we feature Matthew Rutherford, 19, from Bangor.  Matthew gained an A, B and C in his A Levels and was on track for university, but decided early on that wasn’t the best route for him.  

Keen to develop his skills and knowledge in carpentry and joinery, Matthew progressed to the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery with SERC and is employed by Laird Contracts Ltd in Bangor.   

The young man also beat more than 1500 entrants from across the UK to scoop the Screwfix Apprentice of the Year 2024 Award.
