Adults Invited to Return to Learn at SERC

SERC is hosting a series of Open Days for adults who want to refocus and reimagine their next step by returning to learn at the College.

This past year has forced many people to rethink the future in terms of employment opportunities and career.  Whether you have been thinking about a return to education for some time now or feel that you need to ‘future proof’ yourself for employment, SERC is set to welcome adults to find out about Restart Education and Access to University programmes at:

Newcastle Campus
Wednesday 18 August, 10am – 2pm and 5pm to 7pm.
Ballynahinch Campus
Thursday 19 August, 10am – 2pm, and
Friday 3 September, 10am – 2pm.

Heather McKee, Director of Strategic Planning, Quality and Support said, “SERC offers education for everyone. Our courses give learners the opportunity to gain qualifications and update their skillset, or even take a new direction completely and train for a different career.  A return to education at any stage in life gives you the chance to refocus on your future and reimagine the possibilities ahead of you."     

“On our Restart and Restart Lite courses, you’ll be supported to dip your toe in the water and find out where your strengths and interests lie for the next step in learning or work. With small classes and supportive staff, students quickly grow in confidence to gain qualifications you may feel you missed out on and gain skills which may have seemed out of reach."       

“If you feel that you missed your chance to go to university, the Access Level 3 Diploma in Foundation Studies is tailored for adults who have been out of full-time education for two years or more and leads to a qualification validated by Queen’s University Belfast.   This can take you to onto higher education at SERC or in universities and colleges across the UK.”

  Heather added, “We want all our students to achieve and to reach their personal goals and we work hard to make this happen with our expert teaching staff and full package of student support services including careers advice, student finance; pastoral and wellbeing support; access to resource centres and our creche – Little SERC – for the children of Restart and Access students at our Newcastle campus.  All students are automatically members of the SERC Students’ Union.”
