Adam Smyth decided an Apprenticeship offered the best route to get his foot in the door for work and a career in engineering.

Adam Smyth decided an Apprenticeship offered the best route to get his foot in the door for work and a career in engineering.

The 17-year-old from Dromara was keen to get into employment following his GCSEs.   He did some research and discovered the Apprenticeship programmes offered at SERC and following a discussion with one of the tutors, decided to enrol. Adam is currently undertaking a Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship and is employed by NI Engineering.

He said, “I am really enjoying my Apprenticeship course and being in work. I am particularly enjoying learning all the techniques required to make finished products and the process of engineering from start to finish.  In my job with NI Engineering, I am using specialist CNC lathes to create high pressure valves.

Speaking about his experience of the Apprenticeship course at SERC he said, “I would encourage anyone thinking of doing an Engineering Apprenticeship to choose SERC for your studies.  I highly rate my overall experience. It is important that you keep up with the coursework but there is lots of support and encouragement to help you progress in your apprenticeship.”
