The Glass Umbrella Theatre Company are proud to present: Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertolt Brecht. The play was originally written to chronicle the Thirty Years War of the Seventeenth Century. Our protagonist, the remarkable Mother Courage, follows the armies back and forth across Europe, selling provisions and liquor to both sides from her canteen wagon. As the action of the play progresses, spanning across 22 years, she remains indomitable in her profiteering, refusing to part with her wagon and her livelihood, even when faced with massive personal sacrifices.  The play demonstrates poignantly that those trying to profit from a war cannot escape its costs.

Our adaptation removes our characters from said historic confines and drops them within an ambiguous part of the time and place in the world, where conflict has yet again taken hold.

Labelled as 'a play with music', our adaptation contains live music, all of which pays homage to the works of David Byrne and Talking Heads. Tracks have been carefully chosen and tailored to accommodate the original lyrical content from the play. To assist with compositional reinvention, the musicians have been tasked to perform the tracks using a variety of non-traditional instruments; from trombone to accordion.

The production contains strong language.

Due to the thrust staging of this production, there will be limited seating.
