Management Development Programme (MDP)

The SERC Management Development programme has been designed to develop individuals who are seeking to further their management and leadership career. The course is targeted at those who are entering into a graduate management position or who already hold a supervisory / junior management position within their own organisation. Candidates will achieve a CMI Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management on completion of the programme which will be taught online over one academic year.

Course Structure
Through the programme candidates will be able to develop their knowledge and personal skillset ensuring they are better prepared for a prosperous and challenging career in management, across all sectors.  The programme has been specifically designed to allow candidates to develop their own management and leadership skillset while building knowledge.  All candidates will complete a business improvement project, further developing their commercial awareness and project management skills.  The Management Development programme will allow candidates to learn how to better develop teams and individuals, create operational plans, manage stakeholder relationships, manage the customer experience, plan and manage projects, manage change, identify new approaches to business activities, manage quality and continuous improvement as well as managing the human resources function.   Candidates will have the opportunity throughout the programme to reflect on their own performance and will be assigned to a coach to further support their leadership and management journey on a one to one basis.  

While there are no formal entry requirements for the programme, candidates should be in a current or pending management or supervisory position in order to be able to complete the assessment required for the programme.  Candidates will be interviewed to assess suitability.

 

 

 Assessment will be via written reports, presentations and case studies.

The Management Development Programme has been specifically designed to enable aspiring and junior managers to progress in a management and leadership career. 

The programme is designed to allow candidates to gain a broad understanding of management and leadership areas allowing them to progress further in their career and to enhance their management and leadership practice.

There are no additional costs associated with this programme. 

The programme is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute at Level 5 (Diploma).  On completion of the programme candidates will have the opportunity to progress to Chartered Manager Status through the exemption route.

 

 

The Diploma gives you a fully comprehensive bank of the skills and knowledge required to be a manager as part of an organisation, as well as the ability to apply your learning in the context of another organisation or industry sector.  Candidates will complete a number of units including but not exclusively as detailed below:

  • Principles of leadership practice
  • Principles of managing and leading individuals and teams to achieve success
  • Forming successful teams
  • Managing the customer experience
  • Managing stakeholder relationships
  • Managing change
  • Conducting a management project
  • Using reflective practice to informs personal and professional development

Students will be required to comply with SERC's Terms & Conditions of study.

We strive to ensure the description of courses on SERC's website and in publications is accurate.   Candidates are expected to attend all lessons in order to successfully complete the programme.  The programme will be delivered over sixteen full days which will require candidates to attend every other week.
