Course Overview

This 2-year course is the equivalent to 3 A levels and enables you to learn about working within the public and protective services.

The course is offered in Bangor campus. The modules are timetabled for 15 hours per week.

One day a week is not timetabled to provide the opportunity for directed study, personal development or perhaps part-time work in the voluntary sector. On successful completion of this course, students can progress onto university to study a wide range of degrees available or pursue employment in the uniformed protective services.

A further 8 hours may be allocated to Essential Skills and Employability.

You will work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities designed to improve employability.

You will also have the opportunity to complete a qualification in IT. You will also have the opportunity to achieve Duke of Edinburgh Award and Millennium Volunteers.

You want work as a Police Officer, Fire Fighter, Paramedic or join the Army.

You can also continue your studies to a higher level at University.

Teamwork and leadership skills, discipline and respect for diversity.

The outdoor expeditions, fitness training and the hands-on experience with industry and the opportunities to volunteer with local organisations.

Successful completion of this course could enable you to progress to university or look for immediate employment in the armed or emergency uniformed public and protective services.

The course will allow you to be prepared for entry into the public services.

The varied nature of the course allows students to find something which interests them which commonly includes outdoor activities, criminology or sociology.

The skills developed on this course can be easily transferred to any avenue of employment.

The entry requirements for this course are 4 GCSE’s between grades A* to C to include English GCSE (equivalencies recognised).

In circumstances where there are more applications for a course than there are places available, the College reserves the right to ask for higher grades.

Additional Costs

An upfront payment upon registration to the course to cover costs for outdoor activities is £150 for the year.

These activities will form the basis of assessment and therefore is mandatory.

Further Education

If you have just completed your GCSEs, Further Education is most likely the option for you. FE covers qualifications from entry to higher level qualifications such as Awards, Certificates, Diplomas, NVQ, BTEC and Apprenticeships.
