This course is suitable for students considering pathways into higher education in dance or employment in the industry.  It has been designed as a full time two year programme and is equivalent to 3 A levels. 

This course is suitable for students considering pathways into higher education in dance or employment in the industry. You will train in a broad range of dance practices and gain an insight into the world of dance. The course provides opportunities to develop skills in creativity and performance.   Throughout the course you will cover a number of modules, to develop both practical and theoretical skills.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts or, 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above, plus successful outcome at audition/interview (You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C).   

Modules studied may include: 

  • Exploring Performance Styles
  • Creating Performance Material
  • Performing as a Dancer as part of an Ensemble
  • Planning a Career in the Industry
  • Using Development Plans to Refine Skills
  • Producing a Personal Project
  • Using Material for Self - promotion and Networking
  • Undertaking a Defined Creative or Administration Role
  • Using Creative Collaboration to Develop a Project
  • Producing a Collaboration Project                                         

Through these modules, you will develop skills in a variety of dance styles including, Jazz, Commercial, Ballet, Tap and Contemporary.

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability.  

You would like to pursue a career in Dance.

The essential skills through practical technique classes in urban dance, tap, jazz dance, classical ballet and contemporary dance. Leading to public performances throughout the course.

Having the opportunity to become a member of student company The Glass Umbrella Theatre Company and taking part in public performances in professional theatre environments including the schools very own theatre.

Successful completion of this course can lead to further study or into industry
