Course Overview

This course focuses on a practical & creative approach to learning key industry related skills, e.g. studio recording & production, concert staging & live sound engineering, electronic music production & performance.  

Practical workshops delivered by specialist tutors creatively explore a range of new technologies: Pro Tools, Ableton Live Suite, Avid S6, Focusrite RedNet, DiGiCo Quantum 225, Yamaha LS9.

 Year 1 - subjects studied may include:  

• Studio Recording

• Creating Musical Material through Production

• Music Technology and Live Events

• Planning a Career in the Industry

Year 2 - Subjects studied may include:     

• Using Development Plans to Refine Skills

• Producing a Personal Project

• Using Material for Self-Promotion and Networking

• Undertaking a Defined Technical Project Role

• Using Creative Collaboration to Develop a Project

• Producing a Collaborative Project

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities and projects designed to improve employability.

You would like to work in studio engineering, recording and production, live sound engineering or electronic music for performance/film/theatre.

About audio engineering principles, studio and music production techniques, live sound engineering, electronic music composition for performance, and the music business.

You will have numerous opportunities to perform and participate in live music performances, sound engineer live music/theatre events and record and produce music albums, film soundtracks etc.

The music recording and performance facilities at our Space Building, Bangor, with industry standard equipment such as Pro Tools HD, Focusrite Rednet systems and computer music workstations available for all students.

Successful completion of this course will allow you to progress onto employment or further study.

Entry requirements include the following: BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music, or, 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above, plus successful outcome at audition/interview (You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C).      

Music technology experience would also be beneficial.   

Successful completion at interview.   

The interview process will involve an interview and a written test. The outcomes of which, along with the required grades, will determine your entry to this programme.
