Course Overview

This course provides you with the relevant professional training, education and qualifications to become a beauty therapist. It is particularly suitable if you are interested in massage, electrical treatments and aromatherapy.  This is a very intensive course that requires commitment and home study to enable you to successfully complete the programme in one year.

 

Units will include:

 

Mandatory:

  • Provide body electrical treatments
  • Provide facial electrical treatments
  • Provide body massage treatments
  • Provide electrical epilation treatments
  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
  • Optional: (your tutor will inform you of the optional units to be completed)
  • Provide Indian head massage
  • Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
  • Provide self-tanning services
  • Provide stone therapy treatments

You would like to work in a beauty salon, spa resorts, day spa, cruise-ship, airlines, own your own business.

How to provide body and facial electrical treatments, body massage, Indian head massage, self-tanning services and stone therapy treatments and permanent hair removal. Plan and promote events in the salons to be able to survive in this competitive Industry. Specialist skills delivered by external companies such as, Dermalogica training, business set ups.

The hands-on approach to this course and getting experience in the College Beauty Salons of Shadeka and Revive.

The visits to Spa Salons and the Professional Beauty show in Dublin

Successful completion of this programme will enable you to apply to progress to employment or further study in Holistic Therapies or Level 3 Theatrical & Media Makeup programmes.

NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy or equivalent and successful outcome at skills test and interview.

This course will be timetabled over 18.5 hours per week i.e. 15 hours of vocational classes and 3.5 hours per week Essential Skills Literacy and Numeracy

Students who do not have at least grade C in Maths and English will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy.

There will be one week in the year employability and two weeks Induction when the course commences in September.

Students will be required to provide their own materials and equipment eg kit and uniform. There will be an extra cost for these which will be discussed with you by the tutor.
