Course Overview

Exploratory phase – (Level 3) learners experiment with diverse media, materials, techniques and processes across specialist skills areas.

You will investigate progression opportunities and develop a portfolio of work to support existing practice and progression while developing towards a specialist area of practice.    

Confirmatory phase – (Level 4) learners produce a final major project and draw upon the summation of knowledge and skills acquired during their learning.

Over the year there are two phases and six content areas, these are: 

Semester One: Exploratory phase – (Level 3)

• investigation 

• experimentation 

• evaluation and review 

• realisation 

Semester Two: Confirmatory phase – (Level 4)

• communication 

• self-directed practice

You are looking to broaden your practical and theoretical understanding of art and design practice as a post ‘A’ Level bridging year in preparation for higher education to a HNC, HND or Degree level study or; self-employment or employment in the creative industries. 

The programme offer learners the opportunity to experiment widely and take creative risks in order to develop a broad portfolio of work and professional behaviours required for progression.

It also provides opportunities to develop art and design visual skills in both 2D and 3D over the course of study through a process of self-direction, reflective practice and communication, which are key skills for progression to higher education.

The opportunity to work with a creative team of tutors, exploring and experimenting with a broad range of media and materials within a fine art context.

Access to the art and design studios and industry standard specialist equipment

 

The programme not only aims to provide opportunities to develop the creative skills in preparation for progression to higher education, but also a skillset of valuable, transferable skills much sought after by employers.

These combined skills will prepare you for progression to Higher level qualifications such as HNC/HND and degrees or self-employment or employment within the creative industries.

 

BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design or an A Level pass at Grade C with 4 GCSEs Grade C to include English.

At interview, you must bring a portfolio of work displaying an interest and ability in Art and Design and other visual arts such as photography.  Details of this will be confirmed in the email invitation at a later date.

Should you not have a GCSE grade C in a Numeracy, Literacy or ICT subject, you will be required to complete an Essential Skills Level 2 qualification in that subject.
