Level 2 in Zero Carbon Heating

The aim of this three-strand course, Hydrogen Awareness, Low Energy Buildings and OFT50, is to raise awareness of the need to implement change into the construction sector to improve the housing stock and understand Hydrogen as a Green Energy. As part of this, the candidate will complete OFT50, working on Oil Firing appliances and completing Flue Gas Analysis of their emissions as a comparable to Hydrogen. OFT50 areas are covered by practical sessions over two of the four days.

Course Overview
This Level 2 course is designed to allow the learner to gain knowledge within the Domestic Dwelling construction and heating systems with current and emerging energy sources that they will discover and work with to meet the challenges of Carbon Reduction 2025-2050, the road to nett zero. This is a four-day course split equally between practical and theory activities, with two short paper-based theory exams.

· Understand building insulation.

· Understand the use of internal wall, insulation (IWI) and external wall & insulation (EWI).

· Understand Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems.

· Understand the enhancement of insultation for door, window and framing.

· Understand the use of different green technologies within the dwellings.

· Understand Hydrogen Technologies as a new and alternative energy source to replace fossil fuels.

· Understand Carbon Based Fossil Fuels and their emissions.

· Be able to work on a fossil fuel boiler and correctly measure the flue gas emissions.

Learners are looking for an academic qualification/CPD in the environmental sector – or want to move into the OFTEC Oil sector.

And gain skills and knowledge in Carbon Zero, new and emerging energy sources and retrofitting techniques and practices.

Learning about current usage of fossil fuels and the new suite of Green Carbon Reducing Fuels and Carbon Reducing Retrofitting processes that will reduce our need for consuming fossil fuel within domestic dwellings.

· OCN NI Level 5 Award in Green Technologies

· OCN NI Level 5 Retrofitting of Domestic Properties

· OCN NI Level 5 Certificate and Extended Certificate in Retrofitting of Domestic Properties.

· OFTEC 101 – 105 & 600

· Unvented Hot Water

· Water Regulations

· Heat Pumps

Learners must be at least 18 years of age and it is desirable, but not necessary, to have an engineering/construction qualification such as NVQ or a background/experience in construction/energy etc.
