Course Overview

The Traineeship programme will allow participants to achieve a full Level 2 qualification and will comprise the following key elements:

A main vocational based qualification

Vocational skills development Transversal and digital skills

Work placement

Literacy and numeracy qualifications at Level 2 (may include GCSE qualifications in English and Mathematics)

Course modules may include:

  • The art of dressing hair
  • The art of photographic make-up
  • Apply make-up
  • Client care and communication in beauty related industies
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
  • Lash and brow treatments
  • Cut hair using hairdressing techniques
  • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
  • Themed face painting
  • Colour hair

Assessments will be carried out on paying clients

 

You want to learn and develop the skills required for employment in the hairdressing/make-up artist industry

The art of dressing hair, how to apply make-up, lash and brow treatment, how to cut and colour hair. You will also create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty industry.

Developing your wider skills:  As well as providing you with the technical skills and knowledge in your chosen area, the Traineeship will help you to develop a range of transversal skills that are important for employment including:   Problem solving, Teamwork, Communication, Time management, Entrepreneurship

The practical nature of this course.

Learning aspects of both hairdressing and media-up which will prepare you for employment.

The hands-on approach to this course and getting experience in the College Salons of Shadeka and Revive. Working at commercial events such as Halloween and Christmas shows.

Project Based Learning will also be a key feature of Traineeships. ​This is a dynamic approach to learning in which you will explore real-world problems and challenges that have been developed with employers.

Successful completion of this course can lead to employment or further study on the Level 3 Hairdressing programme or Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up.

to be over 16 years of age and working towards:

  • minimum GCSE grade D in English*
  • minimum GCSE grade D in Mathematics*
  • and two other GCSEs grade F or above or equivalent qualification level*

Applicants that have not obtained the above grades may be eligible to enrol as an Introductory Trainee. Please contact us for further information.

There will be two weeks Induction when the course commences in September.

There will be an interview and skills test for this course

Learners will have to purchase their own uniform and kit.  Lecturers will give you details of this.
