Course Overview

On successful completion of a NI Traineeship, participants will receive a full Traineeship Diploma equivalent to five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and Mathematics qualifications at level 2).

The course will require a commitment of 17 hours per week on campus and one day per week on work placement.  The course purpose is to inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the Business sector. It is the aim of the qualification to give learners the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the Business sector. It also hopes to support progression to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic business course or an apprenticeship. Fundamentally, it hopes to give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of junior job roles across the business sector, for example posts in business administration, Insurance, finance, accounting and retail.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths.

You want to develop transferable skills related to success in business, this is the ideal course for you.  The work placement is key to enabling you to develop these skills.

The key features include a tutorial system with supported learning and a mix of theory and practical activities.   The assignment and controlled assessment/exam-based nature of this qualification, with the use of internal assessment offers a route for students who generally perform better in a mixture of coursework and controlled assessment situations.

Good attendance is necessary to complete the course successfully. 

About the business environment and develop your enterprising skills including developing brands and how to market a business or products.

The field trips, guest speakers and work placement that you will take part in on this course, allowing you to gain a true insight into the business sector.

On completion of the NI Traineeship, you can progress within SERC to a Level 3 Further Education course or a Level 3 Apprenticeship (possibly with your work placement employer).  This can lead you to higher education options. 

4 GCSEs grade D-G, including grade E in Maths and grade D in English or equivalent. Applicants that have not obtained the above grades may be eligible to enrol as an Introductory Trainee. Please contact us for further information.
