Course Overview

Tour guiding has grown into one of the largest, exciting and developing industries in the N. Ireland and the UK.  This introductory part-time course in tour guiding is perfect if you have a passion for meeting people and can provide excellent customer service. 

The OCN NI Level 2 Award in Tour Guiding has been designed to provide you with the skills in the Travel & Tourism industry to enable you to develop tour commentary and to lead groups on a guided tour.  Other aspects of the course include compulsory walking tours that can last more than three or four hours

Suitable for a wide variety of learners including adult learners who are looking for an opportunity to study something exciting and novel. This part-time course runs for eight weeks and is delivered over one evening. Due to the increasing demand, early enrolment is advised.

Applicants are advised that components of this course can be physically demanding and will include mandatory walking tours that can last a number of hours.

The L2 OCN NI Tour Guiding Course is available at the Bangor, Lisburn & Downpatrick Campuses

This course will cover 3 main outcomes: 

  1. Understanding the role of the tour guide in the travel and tourism industry.
  2. Be able to produce a short tour commentary
  3. Understand the health and safety implications of tour guiding

You wish to become a Tour Guide in the developing tourism sector and enjoy meeting people.

The skill to enable you to develop tour commentary and to lead groups on a guided tour. 

That assessment is carried out through activities that occur both inside and outside the classroom, therefore making it an enjoyable experience.

The OCN NI Level 2 Award in Tour Guiding Qualification enables progression into the OCN NI Level 3 Certificate in Tour Guiding as well as further learning in this area or into employment.

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification, although Students should have a good knowledge of the tourism industry and good customer service skills.
