Higher Level Apprenticeship in Leadership & Productivity Improvement
The course aims to provide opportunities for individuals to develop skills and knowledge in leadership and productivity improvement. Candidiateswill also gain a fundamental understanding of digital transformation technology and strategy and will be able to identify opportunities for technology adoption in a business improvement context. The focus will be on driving real and meaningful change within a business that leads to tangible productivity improvements. The improvements realised could include but not be limited to; increasing efficiency, reducing costs, improving quality or any other business measurement metric that is deemed appropriate.

View 2025/26 CourseThe aim of this programme is to develop learners through the completion of a range of professional qualifications that are inextricably linked to undertaking an improvement project (or range of projects) for a business.
The course is taught on a part-time basis over a period of two years. The structure of the programme enables the development of foundational leadership, management and project management skills in year one followed by the development and delivery of transformational change skills and knowledge in year 2.
The course is underpinned by a range of professional and technical qualifications that includes but is not limited to:
- CMI Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership
- OCN NI Level 5 Diploma in Leading Quality Improvement
General GCSE Requirements:
- Four GCSEs including Maths and English at Grade C.
UCAS:
- A minimum of 48 UCAS points.
Other Entry Requirements:
- All candidates are required to be employed in a management / supervisory role in order to complete the qualification.
Accreditation of Prior Learning:
Alternatively, you can provide evidence of your ability to undertake the programme by meeting the requirements for the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process, either through Accredited Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). International Students English Language Requirements:
International applicants, from Non-Native English speaking countries, must have evidence of English Language Level B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
- IELTS 6.0 (Academic) (minimum of 5.5 in all skills)
- PTE Academic 51 (minimum of 46 in each part)
- Or equivalent UKVI-approved English Language Test

Higher Level Apprenticeship Eligibility
To be eligible for a Higher Level Apprenticeship (HLA), in addition to the entry requirements identified above, you need to:
- be employed or be about to take up permanent paid employment as an apprentice, or be an existing employee moving to a new job role, allowing you to gain appropriate industrial experience, with a Northern Ireland based company (does not include public sector) who is willing to support you as an HLA candidate,
- work a minimum of 21 hours per week (which includes time for ‘off-the-job’ training),
- be the minimum school leaving age in Northern Ireland.

- Understanding the impact of Leadership within an organisation
- Using Data to Inform the Quality Improvement Process

- Mentoring and Leadership Skills for Managing Quality Improvement
- Plan, Monitor and Control Quality Improvement Projects
