Give this Eco Friendly Bird Feeder a Try!

DIY Eco Friendly Bird Feeder

Birds are always on the look out for food sources, and during the winter months these may be more scarce due to the hard grounds, bare trees and frost. According to the RSPB, birds require high-energy (high-fat) foods during the cold winter weather to maintain their fat reserves to survive the frosty nights. Although winter feeding benefits birds most, food shortages can occur at any time of the year. By feeding all year round, you'll give them a better chance to survive food shortages whenever they may occur.

So why not add some bird feeders to your garden to give them a little extra in the cold months and beyond. Maybe you already have some feeders in your garden but want to add some more? Why not try this eco-friendly alternative to some of the plastic options on the market? Make use out of orange skins you may otherwise have thrown out and give these DIY Eco Friendly Bird Feeders a go!

What you will need:

Orange, Spoon, Knife, Bowl, Wooden Skewers, String & Bird Seed

  1. Cut your orange into two halves.
  2. Scoop out all of the flesh from the orange, just leaving the skin.
  3. Pierce the skewers into and through the orange, causing a cross in the middle.
  4. Use one piece of string to tie to the end of two skewers and repeat for the other side.
  5. Hang outside for birds to eat from!
