NI Apprenticeship Week 2021 at SERC
"Employers can strengthen and grow their teams with an apprentice, thereby developing the skills of our people right across Northern Ireland. Skills are a key priority for me as we begin the process of rebuilding our economy and I am determined to keep apprenticeships at the centre of our long-term strategic plans."
Most of the events this year are run online, with SERC hosting a series of virtual activities which will highlight what is on offer for young people considering the apprenticeship route, and for employers who want to grow and strengthen their business with an apprentice.
The annual event is led by the Department for the Economy and provides a platform for SERC to celebrate the college’s partnerships with employers in supporting the next generation of professionals.
Events for potential apprentices, their parents and employers include presentations by guest speakers from industry, “Ask Me Anything” live Q & A sessions with apprentices and employers, and free Continuing Professional Development sessions with some of the biggest names in fire security, plumbing and heating and heating technology suppliers - namely AICO, Baxi and Danfoss.

Apprenticeship Success Stories
Higher-Level Apprentice with financial services company FinTru - Charlotte Neill
“I am really enjoying how hands-on the apprenticeship is; I feel I am learning at a faster pace outside of the classroom. I am also enjoying working with professionals in the IT industry - everyone has been very helpful and furthered my interest in software development. The tutors I have had at SERC have been helpful and really care about their students; you can tell they want their students to succeed.”
Level 2 Apprentice with Heyn Forktruck Solutions - Ross Green
"I would encourage anyone my age to find out about becoming an apprentice. I am specialising in forklift engineering. There are plenty of opportunities - on my doorstep or around the world. I am learning from my employer at work and when I am in college two days a week. I was keen to earn while I am learning so the apprenticeship route suited me best."
