Course Overview
The Traineeship programme will allow you to achieve a full Level 2 qualification and will comprise the following key elements:

A main vocational based qualification
Vocational skills development
Transversal and digital skills
Work placement Literacy and numeracy qualifications at Level 2 (may include GCSE qualifications in English and mathematics)
Additional qualifications deemed necessary for work within a sector e.g. First Aid

Modules may include:

  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Nutrition for Sports Performance
  • Development of Personal Fitness
  • Effects of Exercise on the Human Body
  • Injury in Sport
  • Planning and Leading Sports Activities

You want a good introduction to the wide and varied aspects of sport and want to progress to a career such as a Fitness Coach, Personal Trainer, Leisure Centre Employee or Sports Development Officer.

The course also includes a significant amount of industry work experience. This will give you the opportunity to experience these potential careers.

About anatomy and physiology for sport, sports nutrition and performance, personal fitness, injury in sport and planning and leading a sports activity.

Developing your wider skills, as well as providing you with the technical skills and knowledge in your chosen area, the Traineeship will help you to develop a range of transversal skills that are important for employment including:   Problem solving, Teamwork, Communication, Time management, Entrepreneurship.

The practical hands on nature of this course and you will be involved in a variety of individual and team events as well as organising sport events. You may also have an opportunity to gain professional qualifications such as IFA coaching.

Successful completion of this programme will enable you to progress to the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Sport, or Sport Fitness and Personal Training, or onto another Level 3 course. Further study can lead to careers as a Fitness Coach, Personal Trainer, Leisure Centre Manager or Sports and Exercise Psychologist and PE teacher.

4 GCSEs grade D-G, including grade 'E’ in maths and grade 'D’ in English or equivalent. Applicants that have not obtained the above grades may be eligible to enrol as an Introductory Trainee. Please contact us for further information.
