SERC Students Showcase Creativity at Hair and Media Makeup Intercampus Competition

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup students from the Bangor and Lisburn campuses, recently showcased their creativity at an intercampus competition held at the Lisburn campus.

Based on the theme, 'Myths and Legends of Ireland', students were tasked with creating an image. Using makeup, hair styling techniques, wigs, body paint, clothing and accessories, the students demonstrated their skills by completing a transformation look on their models to complete the brief. The competition was then judged by two professionals, Patrisha Strong, hairdresser and wig expert, and Alana Frazer, a makeup artist who has worked on the sets of Derry Girls and Game of Thrones.

First place was awarded to Gillian Fletcher (Bangor), second place was awarded to Shannon Graham (Newtownards) and third place was awarded to Deborah McConnell (Newtownards), who all currently study at the Bangor campus.

Martha Craig, Deputy Head of School, Performing and Creative Arts comments, “This competition was linked to the students’ vocational study units, so as well as taking part and showcasing their skills, the students also achieved assessments. Congratulations to the winners Gillian, Shannon, and Deborah, and well done to all the students who participated.”

Gillian Fletcher, First Place Winner said, “I am delighted to have won first place in the Level 2 Hair and Media Makeup competition as part of our ‘create an image’ unit, competing against other very talented students. I recently returned to education last year, and I have really enjoyed the opportunity to take part in this competition.”
