17 January 2019

To help you achieve a healthier lifestyle in 2019 we are launching the 6 week weight loss challenge commencing week beginning 21 January 2019.  The Weight Loss Challenge is in conjunction with the NHS weight loss plan.  In January 2017 we ran the challenge and staff lost an amazing 175 pounds!

The plan is designed to help you lose weight at a safe rate of 0.5kg to 1kg (1lb to 2lb) each week by sticking to a daily calorie allowance.  For most men this means sticking to a calorie limit of no more than 1,900 calories a day, and 1,400 calories for most women.  The calorie allowance is based on NICE guidance, which states that to lose weight, the average person should reduce their daily calorie intake by 600 calories.

The NHS weight loss plan:

  • Promotes sate and sustainable weight loss;
  • Helps you learn how to make healthier food choices;
  • Provides weekly progress chart for you to download;
  • Support from their online community forum and
  • Exercise plans to help you lose weight

We will be providing healthy eating incentives in the College Canteens, exercise advice and ongoing support throughout the 6 week challenge.
