The Pearson National Teaching Awards is an annual celebration of exceptional teachers, founded in 1998 by Lord David Puttnam to recognise the life-changing impact an inspirational teacher can have on the lives of the young people they teach.

The SERC Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Environment team was shortlisted for the ‘FE Team of the Year' award for their running of the SERC Entrepreneurs’ Club, which helps to develop SERC students' enterprise skills, helps them put those skills into practice, and identifies and supports entrepreneurs in NI. The club develops work-ready and enterprising students, many of whom leave college owning thriving businesses – 43 of the Entrepreneurs’ Club projects progressed to become independent businesses, with 281 students involved. The student businesses support economic growth and target Skills Barometer and local government Economic Development Plans priority areas.

Lizzie Buick, SERC Deputy Head of Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Environment, commented, “It is the most fabulous news that the Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Environment team have made it to the finals at the very prestigious Pearson Teaching Awards. It is wonderful that the team at SERC has been recognised for the far-reaching impact on our students, alumni, and the community, and for our work in areas of educational, economic and social development skills. We commend all the worthy finalists.”

The winners will be announced on the 21st of June – SERC wishes the Enterprise, Entrepreneurship and Environment Team the best of luck.
