A joint Erasmus funding bid between South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Forth Valley College (FVC) in Scotland, and educational institutions from Denmark, Portugal, Malta and England, has secured £50k to develop digital skills in a new two-year project.

The project, ‘Innovative Digital Education and Skills’ (IDEAS) will see the development of training which offers bite-sized micro credentialled modules, that will be flexible and adapted to the individual professional development needs of teachers.

It is hoped the innovative ‘Community of Practice’ will allow teachers from across Europe to communicate and share best practice, whilst raising digital competence. The training will help teachers prepare virtual/online/blended learning, teaching and assessment strategies moving to a post COVID-19 environment.

The programme will use adaptive learning to help teachers identify training best suited to their needs and is designed to support staff across all curriculum areas within FE and HE, to improve their digital competence and skills through a personalised training package with support from 16 IDEAS Mentors.

Paula Philpott, Head of SERC’s Learning Academy said, “During the pandemic every sector, including education, has found benefit in collaboration. We look forward to working alongside our European partners to share and learn from one another, building on the strengths of each organisation, to help teachers achieve their ambition to provide a high-quality learning experience. The lessons learned during the past 18 months and those we continue to learn provide a rich soil on which to build this new learning community.”

Helen Young, Head of Learning and Quality, Forth Valley College said, “This project is fully aligned with our Learning and Digital Skills ambition to develop the confidence of all teaching staff in the appropriate and effective application of digital pedagogy and use of digital technology to support learning and teaching, maximising the student experience. This is going to be a great opportunity for the College, and we are looking forward to building relationships with our partners and developing the project.”
