A Cut Above the Rest at SERC Hairdressing Intercampus Competition

Students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) studying on the Level 3 NVQ Hairdressing course at the Bangor and Lisburn campuses, recently displayed their hair styling expertise at an intercampus competition held at Lisburn’s Revive salon.

Given the objective of creating an image based on the theme of ‘fantasy’, students raced against the clock to put their own spin on the creative brief, which included incorporating hair styling, makeup, and costumes. The competition was judged by industry experts including Maria Strafford, Denman Brush Representative, Stephen Hanna, SERC Hairdressing Lecturer and Hairdresser, and Sunita Shaw, Makeup artist.  

Three Bangor students took the top spots in the competition, with Lisa Dunn winning first place, Casey Floyd winning second place, and Molly Davis winning third place.  

Martha Craig, Deputy Head of School, Performing and Creative Arts said, “The hairdressing competition was linked to the students’ vocational study units, so as well as taking part and showcasing their skills, the students also achieved assessments. Congratulations to the winners Lisa, Casey, and Molly, and well done to all the students who participated.”  

Lisa Dunn, first place winner added, “I am delighted to have won the ‘fantasy’ hairdressing competition at SERC’s Lisburn campus. It was a brilliant experience. Everyone involved put in a lot of hard work and the results were amazing. ”
