Why Study This Course

This course is suitable if you would like to develop your skills as a Professional Make-up Artist for Film, Theatre and TV

Whilst on this course you will learn how to do camouflage make-up, media make-up, Fashion and photography make-up, wig services and how to provide a range of styling services. These skills prepare you for a career in the competitive industries of Media, Theatre, Performing Arts and Fashion and photographic industries.

As part of the course, you will work at external events such as in the Space Theatre and Theatre groups and various fashion shows across the province. This valuable experience will help you build your portfolio and gain experience and links within the industry.

Course Overview

The course will be delivered on campus 15 hours per week and will consist of:

· A Level 3 professional & technical qualification

· Level 2 Essential Skills in numeracy and literacy (if required)

· A 2-week induction;

· Professional & Technical skills development;

You will be required to attend a number of SERC arranged external events throughout the year. This will help you gain experience and links within the industry.

Level 2 Diploma in a related area or mature students with substantial industrial experience in relevant area, and successful outcome at audition/interview.

Students who do not have at least grade C in Maths and English will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy.

Students will be required to purchase a uniform and a  makeup, lash and hairdressing and wig kit with mannequin head. Lecturers will give details during information sessions and interviews.

The course contains following modules:

  • Apply airbrush make-up to the face
  • Camouflage make-up
  •  Media make-up
  •  Fashion and photographic make-up
  •  Wig services
  •  Apply individual permanent lashes
  • Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
  • Fantasy hair design for performers

Successful completion of this programme will allow students to progress to a level 4/5 in the field, such as art, beauty or performing arts available within SERC OR foundation degrees in make up in universities such as UCL, Brighton, Salford, Bournemouth OR freelance in a local production
