Why Study This Course

The GCSE Biology course encourages students to appreciate the value of science in their lives and in the wider world around them. It also gives students opportunities to apply their knowledge and understanding of the nature of science and the scientific process.

If you wish to achieve a GCSE grade up to A* in Biology. Many Universities now ask for a GCSE in Science.

The course in delivered in an engaging way and there are varied methods of assessment, including blended learning, practical work and theory.


Course Overview

This is an intensive one year course leading to a GCSE qualification in Biology.

While you will come to class one evening a week, you will be required to do additional work outside of the classroom.

Independent study is an integral part of this course.

Practical science is a key part of this specification, with students carrying out nine prescribed practicals during the course.

Please note: Full Time Access students do not pay tuition fee. They will pay the registration fee only. 

You will need:

  • a keen interest in Biology is essential along with an ability to carry out practical work
  • GCSE Maths & English  (grade C/4 or above) or equivalent

After you apply online, you will be emailed details of information and assessment sessions.

Please note, assessments and enrolments will take place in August & September of each year.

  • Unit 1: Cells, Living Processes and Biodiversity
  • Unit 2: Body Systems, Genetics, Microorganisms and Health
  • Unit 3: Practical Skills

On the successful completion you may progress to further science study at Level 3.
