Business simulation tools are used in a number of core modules to replicate real-world work scenarios. Using various applications, students work in small groups and compete to develop the best business strategies for success including business growth, market dominance, ethical business and sustainability goals.

Live business projects (with real organisations) allow students to put business theory into practice and help realise genuine business opportunities.

Course Overview

The BSc Business Management programme allows students to explore a range of diverse and contemporary subject areas within in the business discipline and to identify an area of specialism for their future career. The course duration is 3 years full-time and students will undertake study of the modules listed below:

Level 4

  • Operations & Technology Management: Learn about process and technology management and design, product design, production planning and control, quality management, supply chain management and inventory management.
  • Academic Skills & Digital Literacy: Develop the underpinning academic skills and knowledge for the degree programme.
  • Marketing: Appreciate the factors and trends in the marketing environment and how they affect marketing, and explains the role of marketing to the organisation.
  • Economics: Understand how markets work and the conditions that lead to market failure.
  • Accounting & Finance: Utilise essential finance and accounting terminology and methods to perform effectively and efficiently within a business setting.
  • Global Business Management: Develop the cross-cultural knowledge and expertise essential to succeed in a world of rapid and profound economic, political and cultural changes.

Level 5

  • Digital Business Management: Analyse the role of digital information technologies to gain competitive advantage making business operations more effective, responsive, resilient and efficient.
  • Managing People & Organisations: Evaluate the process of managing people, and the dynamics of team management to deliver organisational performance.
  • Managing Processes: Understand the concept of Lean Six Sigma and be able demonstrate the principles and tools at Yellow Belt level.
  • Managing Finance: Make evidence-based investment decisions and analyse financial statements and performance in order to ensure sustainability, liquidity and profitability.
  • Managing Data & Information: Explore how organisations make use of statistical data and information in order to inform decision-making. 
  • Employability Skills: Produce the necessary documentation and skills to secure interviews with prospective employers.

Level 6

  • Project Management: Develop an understanding of the structure of projects through the exploration of project life cycles, together with an analysis of the constituent activities and basic techniques that are undertaken during a typical project.
  • Sustainable Management & ESG: Recognise and critically evaluate the global challenges society faces and the role of business and organisations in addressing them.
  • Leadership & Change Management: Understand the challenges faced by leaders in today's complex and dynamic global business environment and understand the theory and practice of managing organisational change.
  • Strategic Management: Recognise and evaluate strategic decision-making and how it affects the competitive advantage of business.
  • Project Dissertation: Investigate a business issue, conduct independent primary research and demonstrate the ability to manipulate and present data in a suitable format.

General Entry Requirements

The general entry requirements below identify the minimum qualifications needed to apply for the programme. Other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis on application. You are required to upload a copy of your qualification certificates to show how you meet the entry requirements for the programme prior to enrolment. Applications will also require successful completion of the admissions process.

GCSE/ Level 2 Requirements

  • GCSE grade C/4 in English Language, or Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills Communication, or equivalent in an approved alternative qualification

AND

  • GCSE grade C/4 in Mathematics, or Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills Application of Number, or equivalent in an approved alternative qualification

AND

  • Three GCSEs Grade A-C/4-9

Course Entry Requirements

A minimum of 112 UCAS points including:

  • Two A Levels at A2 OR
  • Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DMM Typical grade profile indicated above.

Grade profiles equivalent to 112 UCAS tariff points or above will be considered dependent upon subject and Awarding Body entry requirements.

NB Please note applicants are not required to apply through UCAS 

Access Diploma

  • Access Diploma in Foundation Studies with an overall average of 65%+ with one science module at 60%+

Accreditation of Prior Learning

Alternatively, you can provide evidence of your ability to undertake the programme by meeting the requirements for the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process, either through Accredited Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). International Students English Language Requirements

International applicants, from Non-Native English speaking countries, must have evidence of English Language Level B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:

  • IELTS 6.0 (Academic) (minimum of 5.5 in all skills)
  • PTE Academic 51 (minimum of 46 in each part)
  • Or equivalent UKVI-approved English Language Test

Applicants must satisfy the University's general entry requirements and specific requirements. 

Assessment varies depending on the module, but will usually include a combination of exams and coursework.

 

We understand that students perform differently depending on the type of assessment they are given and so a range of assessment methods are used on the programme. These include written assignments (essays/reports, individual/group), exams, practical assessments, individual and group presentations, portfolios, reflective logs and a dissertation. There could be up to three assessments per module, for example a presentation, report and exam. ​

Written feedback is provided within 15 working days of submission, but you can also get face-to-face feedback from your Module Tutor. We believe that constructive feedback is vital in helping you identify your strengths as well as the areas where you may need to develop further.

As a Business Management graduate, you will enhance your professional development and be able to offer a potential employer a range of business skills that will bring real value to their organisation. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in an International Study Tour, which will be self-funded by the student or fully funded through the Turing scheme.  The cost of this study tour will vary from year to year depending upon location however, it is approximately in the region of £300-£400.  Students may also be required to participate in industrial visits; the costs of these visits throughout the year are estimated at a cost to the student of approx. £100 in total.
