Job Club show off their presentation skills at annual coffee morning

SERC Job Club students hosted their annual Coffee Morning in the Downpatrick Campus.

The morning was hosted by student Kye Potts who had the audience on the edge of their seats with his quick wit and humorous one liners.

A diverse selection of interesting and well-presented power points entitled effective communication, my experiences in College, Hollywood during war time and Native Americans were delivered by the students who presented in front of over 50 guests to speak on their chosen topic.

During the event, students had the opportunity to demonstrate the circus skills they learnt during the course. Students were taught by Street Wise Community Circus who provide opportunities throughout Northern Ireland for older people, people with disabilities and people with mental health issues to get involved and enjoy the benefits of the circus.

The audience of family, friends, local school pupils, SERC students and staff were very enthusiastic and made their applause known as students took the stage.

Deputy Head of School, Michelle Hickland said, "This event was a fantastic opportunity for the students to enjoy themselves, socialise together and demonstrate the skills they have been learning throughout the course.

“It is truly inspirational to see the enthusiasm and the enjoyment from the students and how much they have changed and grown since coming to SERC "

She added, " I’m thankful for all the hard work and dedication of all the staff who put so much effort into giving the students the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.”

To close, student Clare Kelly delivered a poem about the Job Club:

Joining Job Club is the thing to do when you’re trying to find something new. I am not sure what career to choose but coming here I`ve nothing to lose.

When walking into class on the first day I really wanted to walk away, but with all the support from the tutors and the assistants too I soon realised that this was the best thing to do.

So, anyone who`s feeling shy and really doesn’t know what to try just call in on your way past and come and see our brilliant class.”

SERC Job Club is for students with special educational needs and aims to assist in providing students with the skills that are required to support them in employment and to improve and develop their own personal skills.
