SERC launch course to help tackle leadership skills shortage

SERC, in collaboration with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has launched a new programme designed to help shape the ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’.

In response to the well documented leadership skills deficit in Northern Ireland, South Eastern Regional College (SERC) has responded to help tackle the challenge with the launch of a new Bridging the Gap leadership and management programme. The College made the announcement last week.  

The programme is focused on building management competencies and is designed for existing managers, as well as staff new to management and those who will be taking on additional management responsibilities.  It provides staff with the opportunity to gain a comprehensive, in-depth and practical understanding of key areas of management. 

Participants on the course will complete a CMI level 5 leadership and management qualification and a work-based project. They will also have the opportunity to gain accredited CMI Chartered Manager Status.

The programme will have a strong focus on a range of business improvement techniques including leadership, innovation, creative thinking, management and communication and offers employers an alternative to costly and time-consuming recruitment campaigns.

It will make a significant contribution to the College’s skills portfolio and provides a solid foundation to build the leadership skills we need for the future."

SERC head of commercial contracts Elaine Flynn explains: “We are delighted to launch this new course which will provide participants with valuable leadership skills while at the same time gaining an additional CMI endorsed qualification.  The programme provides an attractive new way for employers to develop their workforce and support individuals to consolidate and extend their management skills.

“We understand the need for good, well-qualified, talented managers who can make a lasting contribution, and the Bridging the Gap programme brings both themes together in one bespoke programme.”
