Course Structure
At all levels students will be able to gain knowledge of key aspects of the Travel and Tourism industry. The HNC in International Travel and Tourism Management is achieved after one year of full time, (1 Academic year) study including a combination of classroom teaching, online teaching and a scheduled educational visits and guest speakers.
To complete the HNC, all students will study 4 modules over two semesters (8 units in total).

- Managing the Customer Experience
- Professional Identity and Practice
- The Travel and Tourism Business Toolkit
- Leadership and Management for Service Industries (Pearson-set)
- Global Tourism Destinations
- Visitor Attraction Management
- Work Experience
Contact Hours
15 hours contact time to include practical classes, online classes, lectures, workshops or tutorials.
Personal Study 22 hours maximum studying and preparing assessments in your own time per week, including use of online materials.
Entry Requirements
GCSE English
GCSE grade C/4 in English Language, or Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills- Communication, or equivalent in an approved alternative qualification.
GCSE Maths
GCSE grade C/4 in Mathematics, or Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills- Application of Number, or equivalent in an approved alternative qualification.
For students who have recently been in education, the entry profile is one of the following:
- UCAS 32 points
- A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Travel and Tourism (BTEC National Diploma awarded by the Edexcel)
- A Levels and either 3 passes at GCSE (grade C or above) or an intermediate GNVQ or two Double Award Vocational GCSEs.
- A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades A* to C or equivalent and include subjects such as maths and English
- Other related Level 3 qualifications
- An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution

International requirements
International applicants, from Non-Native English speaking countries, must have evidence of English Language Level B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
• IELTS 6.0 (Academic) (minimum of 5.5 in all skills)
• PTE Academic 51 (minimum of 46 in each part)
• Or equivalent UKVI-approved English Language Test

Alternatively, you can provide evidence of your ability to undertake the programme by meeting the requirements for the Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process, either through Accredited Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). If you do not have English and Maths GCSE Grade C or above, you will be expected to achieve this during your studies.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Students are assessed using a range of different assessment methods, including examinations, e-portfolio, coursework, Project Based Learning, presentations, practical, posters, leaflets, role-play, and case studies.
This is dependent on the requirements of each unit of study. Oral, written and online feedback will be provided during your course to help improve and monitor performance.
Where will it take me?
The HNC in International Travel and Tourism Management qualifies students to move directly to employment and work within the travel and tourism and hospitality industry.
Students have the option to progress onto the HND programme which also is offered at SERC (depending on application numbers).
This course also provides students with extensive opportunities for further study of a top up degree, at higher level, studying at some of these UK universities, The University of Central Lancashire, based in Preston, Liverpool John Moores and Ulster University.
Entry can range from Year 1, 2 or final year entry depending on grades achieved and individual university entrance criteria set per year.

Successful completion of the HNC in International Travel and Tourism Management equips students to work within the industry. The alternative one year of full time study provides students with flexibility of choice and opportunity to enhance current skills, knowledge and employability eg promotion opportunities, in their existing professional roles in a relevant sector eg
