OCN NI Level 4 Award in Modern Languages (Italian)


This more advanced course aims to help you develop fluency and enable you to communicate freely in the Italian language, understand more advanced grammatical structures whilst gaining a deeper understanding of Italian culture. Speaking, Reading, Listening and Writing skills are further developed through discussion of newspaper articles, watching live Italian broadcasts and listening to authentic audio materials. Grammar is also taught to help improve both written and spoken accuracy. There is a greater emphasis on Speaking and communication skills.

Course Overview

This course covers the 4 Language Skills, Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing and is accredited by OCN NI.  One module is covered per year.  There are no exams but on successful completion of a portfolio at the end of the year, students receive the Level 4 Award in Modern Languages (Italian) for the skill/module covered that year.    

First Year - Portfolio for Level 4 Reading Skills -students receive L4 Award in Modern Languages (Italian - Reading)

Second Year - Portfolio for Level 4 Listening Skills - students receive L4 Award in Modern Languages (Italian -Listening)

Third Year - Portfolio for Level 4 Speaking Skills- students receive L4 Award in Modern Languages (Italian - Speaking)

Fourth Year - Portfolio for Level 4 Writing Skills- students receive L4 Award in Modern Languages (Italian - Writing)

Students who complete all 4 skills, receive the Level 4 Certificate in Modern Languages (Italian) (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing)  

  • This course will be delivered mainly Face to Face with one in four classes delivered online.
  • Students will be issued the classroom number before the first Face to Face class.
  • Students will be informed of the dates for the online classes and guidance will be given on accessing these classes.
  • In the event of a lockdown, SERC will continue with the classes online.
