Course Overview

This popular course aims to prepare you for a career in the music industry and will develop the skills required for study at higher levels.  

This is a highly practical course which explores all areas of popular music.  You will be required to participate in live performance and recording as part of this course.

Course Modules

  • Planning a Career in the Music Industry
  • Keyboard Skills  

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability.

Ideal If:
 you want to work in the Live or Recorded Music Industry as a songwriter, composer, session musician, sound engineer, music journalist, or in music events management and promotion.

You'll Learn:
how to develop and refine music performance techniques, the history of popular music, development of music theory and harmony. You’ll also gain keyboard skills, use music notation software and develop song writing techniques. You will have numerous opportunities to perform and participate in live music performances, and have your music recorded and produced.

You'll Love:
 the music recording and performance facilities at our SPACE Building, Bangor, the music practice and performance facilities at our Lisburn Campus, with industry standard equipment.

You'll Progress:
 Successful completion of the National Extended Diploma in Music will lead to Higher Education at HND or at University or into employment in the music industry.

You'll Need:

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music, or, 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above, plus successful outcome at audition/interview

(You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C).
