Course Overview
This 1 year course has an emphasis on developing your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques within the theatrical and performing arts sector.
 
Modules studied may include:
 
  • Media, special effects and camouflage make-up,
  • How to apply ready-made small prosthetic pieces and bald caps,
  • Design and apply face and body art,
  • Media make-up,
  • Styling and dressing hair,
  • Style and fit a postiche
  • How to apply the complex skill of airbrush make-up.

You will be required to attend a number of SERC arranged external events throughout the year.  This will help you gain experience and links within the industry.

You would like to develop your skills as a Professional Make-up Artist for Film, Theatre and TV.

How to do special effects and camouflage make-up, face and body art, media make-up, styling hair and airbrush make-up and how to provide Hair & Makeup services in the Media, Theatre, Performing Arts and Fashion and photographic industries.

Working at external events such as in the Grand Opera House, Space Theatre, Web Theatre and various fashion shows across the province, helping you gain experience and links within the industry.

Successful completion of this programme will allow students to progress to a level 4/5 in the field, such as art, beauty or performing arts available within SERC OR foundation degrees in make up in universities such as UCL, Brighton, Salford, Bournemouth OR freelance in a local production.

4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or a Level 2 Diploma in a related area, and successful outcome at audition/interview

Mature students that do not meet the pre-entry qualifications, but do have at least 3 years industry experience, will also be considered.

This course will be timetabled over 18.5 hours per week i.e. 15 hours of vocational classes and 3.5 hours per week Essential Skills Literacy and Numeracy

Students who do not have at least grade C in Maths and English will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy.

There will be one week in the year employability and two weeks Induction when the course commences in September.

ADDITIONAL COSTS

Students on this course are required to wear a uniform which consists of a SERC hoodie and tshirt.   One or other must be worn at events so that they are easily distinguished between other students.  The hoodies are £25 and tshirts are £15 Students will also need to purchase their own specialist make up kit - price is approx. £350 but details will be confirmed within the first week.
