Electric Vehicles have an important role to play in meeting air quality legislation and the UK’s commitment to climate change targets. For this reason, the UK government is actively supporting the switch to electric vehicles. This qualification covers the installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment for the charging of pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric road vehicles (PHEV) and includes the extended range of electric vehicles (E-REV).

Course Overview
This qualification is now updated to the 4th edition of the Code of Practise and is aimed at practicing electricians, electrical technicians and engineers with experience of electrical installations, and associated inspection and testing It covers the installation of dedicated conductive charging equipment for the charging of pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric road vehicles (PHEV) and includes the extended range of electric vehicles (E-REV). It covers the installation of both AC and DC charging equipment intended for plug-in electric vehicles (PEV) complying with BS EN 61851 and “The Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installations”.

There is one written assignment, one practical assignment and an online exam to complete this course.

You are currently an MCS installer, or electrician who is considering embarking the Installation works required for Electrical Vehicle Charging Systems.

The installation requirements, of the Electrical systems and charging ports/posts required and component parts of the EVC systems. 

Learning about the new technologies associated with Electrical Vehicle Charging Systems.

You could progress and have other qualification opportunities for example in Electrical Energy Storage Systems, Solar Photo Voltaic and the Level 5 OCN NI Green Technologies.

Applicants should have experience installing electrical installations within domestic and/or non-domestic premises and hold as a minimum:

  • Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations

and

  • Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671 (current edition)
