Course Overview

This introductory course is designed to give you the skills you need to speak and understand basic French in everyday contexts. This course is aimed at anyone with an interest in the language and the country.  There will be a variety of classroom activities covering reading, speaking, listening and writing with a greater emphasis on speaking.

You will need to purchase a course book and in some cases CDs or a Book and CD pack.  Course books vary from course to course and you will be informed of the course book titles at the start of the course.

You have an interest in learning French. Learning a language can be a useful addition to your CV and language skills can also give you a considerable edge in today's job market.

  • Greetings and Introductions
  • Travel and Transport
  • Booking Accommodation
  • Shopping
  • Eating Out
  • Sightseeing

Studying a course in which assessment is carried out through activities that occur naturally in the classroom, therefore making it an enjoyable experience.

This course will be delivered mainly Face-to Face in the classroom with an option to attend the classes online. Online classes are usually delivered through Microsoft Teams. If you choose to complete the course online, you may be required to very occasionally meet up with the tutor face to face. This applies mainly to the one-year accredited courses. In the event of a lockdown, SERC will continue with the full course online.

On completion of this course you can progress to OCN NI French 2.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

You will need to purchase a course book and in some cases CDs or a Book and CD pack.  Course books vary from course to course and you will be informed of the course book titles at the start of the course.  If the course is a follow up from a previous course, you could be using the same course book as in the previous course.
