Course Overview

The course aims to develop the practical skills and knowledge essential to work within the engineering industry. The course will enable you to qualify for an EAL Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technology and a ETA NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations.

Course Modules

Modules may include:

  • Engineering Environment Awareness
  • Engineering Techniques
  • Engineering Principles
  • Preparing and Using Lathes for Turning Operations
  • Preparing and Using Milling Machines
  • Preparing and Using Manual MIG, MAG or Other Continuous Wire Welding Equipment
  • Producing Mechanical Engineering Drawing Using a CAD system

You will also study Essential Skills to Level 2 in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT unless exempt through GCSE grades C in English, Maths and ICT.

As a student you will spend one day in the College and four days with your employer.

Ideal If:

You are employed and want to pursue a career in Fabrication and Welding Engineering

You'll Learn:

About fabrication and welding technology, how to weld using MIG and TIG processes and how to fabricate sheet metal and thick plate.

You'll Love:

The industry standard machinery giving you practical experience.

You'll Progress:

Onto the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Fabrication and Welding Engineering.

You'll Need:

An employer and 5GCSEs including at least Grade F in English and Maths. However to help you succeed on the course it is preferable if you have a minimum of Grade D in Maths and English.
