Course Overview

This course is equivalent to four GCSE’s at Grade A-C level and aims to develop skills and knowledge for further Level 3 courses.  You will study 8 modules throughout the year, typically 4 modules per semester and include a combination of theory and practical elements.

Typically, you will be in class studying Sports modules for a minimum of 15 hours.  One day a week is not timetabled to provide the opportunity for directed study, personal fitness or perhaps pursue part-time work in the Sports and Fitness Industry.  On successful completion of this course, students are well positioned to be considered to progress to a Level 3 Sports course or to further develop themselves by gaining employment in the Sports industry.

Modules may include:

  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Nutrition for Sports Performance
  • Development of Personal Fitness
  • Effects of Exercise on the Human Body
  • Injury in Sport
  • Planning and Leading Sports Activities

A further 8 hours may be allocated to Essential Skills and Employability.  You will work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities designed to improve employability.  You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE Grade C or above in English or Maths.  You will also have the opportunity to complete a qualification in ICT.
