Worklink - Hairdressing

This course provides an introduction to hairdressing for anyone interesting in taking the first step to a career within the hairdressing industry.

Course Overview

This course provides an introduction to hairdressing for anyone interesting in taking the first step to a career within the hairdressing industry.  You will spend the first term in College developing skills before working in a salon.

This course can last up to 3 years and is aimed at improving your Literacy, ICT and Numeracy Skills whilst at the same time providing you with a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification.

  • Customer Service
  • Reception
  • Personal Presentation
  • Health and Safety
  • Introduction to hairdressing services:

            - Occupational Awareness  -   Introduction to hairdressing techniques

 

This course provides an introduction to hairdressing for anyone interesting in taking the first step to a career within the hairdressing industry.  You will spend the first term in College developing skills before working in a salon.

You will get experience of working in a real salon environment at the College, which is open to the public.

You will gain City and Guilds qualifications in Employability and in Personal and Social Skills, Essential Skills - Numeracy, Literacy and ICT, as well as a qualification in Hairdressing.

Entry Requirements
This course is designed for individuals with mild learning needs and no formal entry qualifications are required.  However you will be required to demonstrate that you have the ability and motivation to succeed at Level 1. You will also need a kit of which the college will fund 50% of the cost. You will be responsible for the other 50%.  This must be paid during the first week of the course.
Where will it take me?
On completion of this course you may progress to employment or onto a Fulltime FE Level 2 vocational programme.
How will it make me more employable?

This course will not only provide you with a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification but will also allow you to improve your Literacy, Numeracy and ICT skills.  All of which improve our chances of obtaining employment.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
For the most part assessment is via portfolios of work, assignment and written tests.
Additional Costs
50% of your hairdressing kit.

Students will be required to comply with SERC's Terms & Conditions of study.

While we endeavour to run all our courses on the advertised day, SERC reserves the right to change the day of week on which the course runs.

In addition to the above Terms & Conditions students must also adhere to the following:

Students are required to:

  • Comply with College Policies and procedures

  • Submit all coursework and assessments by specified dates, coursework submitted without consent after the deadline shall not normally be accepted

  • Pass all modules in each year of study in order to proceed to the next year of the programme.
