Course Overview

This 1 year course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs

This is a good introduction which enables you to obtain invaluable experience within all aspects of technical theatre.


Subjects studied may include:

  • Individual Showcase
  • Preparation, Performance & production
  • Community Arts
  • Production Skills for Performance
  • The Performing Arts Industry
  • Performance in Context
  • Performing Arts Enterprise
  • Multimedia Performance
  • Realising Prop Design for Performance
  • Supporting Performance : Stage Management
  • Lighting for Performance
  • Sound for Performance
  • Use of ICT in the Performing Arts

You will have extensive experience of working in a real working environment at the College's theatre, where you will deal with customers and gain an insight into the theatre as a business.

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability. 

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths or Computing.

An apprenticeship provides learners with the knowledge and skills required to carry out a job in this sector. 
Entry Requirements
You must have secured employment (min 21hrs, inclusive of College hours) within the industry.
  • You need to be 16 years of age by end of June.
  • You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy & ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or L2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology.

  • Where will it take me?
    Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 3 Apprenticeship or Level 3 Diploma or alternatively go to work directly into this industry. Other Further & Higher Education progression routes may also be available.
    How will it make me more employable?
    This course can give you qualifications which will improve your job opportunities.
    You will complete modules in employability skills.

    How will I be assessed and given feedback?
    You will be assessed in each skill area by observation, oral and written assessments.
