Skills for Work 104 Weeks (Level 1) - Retail

This course will provide good grounding if you wish to secure employment within a retail environment.

Course Overview
This course is designed for those with an interest in working in the retail industry.

Students will be required to attend the class once per week.  

 Modules covered may include:
• Understanding the retail industry
 • Payment
 • Stock and warehousing
 • Store design and merchandising
 • Customer service
You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements however you will need literacy and numeracy skills, i.e. the ability to read and interpret written tasks and to write answers in a legible form.
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of the course can lead to employment as a sales assistant, promoting sales and dealing with customer enquiries. Further progression is available to other wider business programmes such as a National Certificate in Business.  Further study will allow you to gain supervisory and management positions within the retail industry. The College also offers retail training on a part-time basis which you may choose to do to enhance your employability.
How will it make me more employable?

As well as gaining a recognised qualification, you will complete a period of work placement and take part in employability skills workshops such as team work, commitment, IT and problem solving.

You will receive a Personal Training Plan (PTP), which provides you with a detailed individual training programme. The Careers Education Programme is an integral part of this course which will equip you with the knowledge to make informed career decisions.

You will develop subject specific skills including customer service, moving and handling stock, health and safety and security.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
You will be assessed through practical demonstrations, assignments and examinations.
