Skills for Work 104 Weeks (Level 1) - Hairdressing

This course provides an introduction to hairdressing for anyone interested in taking the first step to a career within the hairdressing industry. You will spend the first term in College developing skills before working in a salon.

Course Overview
This course provides an introduction to hairdressing for anyone interesting in taking the first step to a career within the hairdressing industry.  You will spend the first term in College developing skills before working in a salon.
 
Subjects studied will include:
 
  • Customer Service
  • Reception
  • Personal Presentation
  • Health and Safety
  • Introduction to hairdressing services:

            - Occupational Awareness  -   Introduction to hairdressing techniques

 

You will get experience of working in a real salon environment at the College, which is open to the public.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or ICT.

Entry Requirements
For the two year course (104 weeks) you will also be required to have achieved at least one formal qualification at level 1. 
Uniforms are paid for by the college.  You will also need a kit and the college will fund 50% of the cost. You will be responsible for the other 50%.  This must be paid during the first week of the course.

Where will it take me?
This is an ideal starting point for training if you have an interest in hairdressing.
How will it make me more employable?

As well as gaining a recognised qualification you will complete a period of work placement, take part in employability skills workshops such as teamwork, commitment, IT and problem solving and have the opportunity to work in a hairdressing salon. Participants will achieve qualifications in Employability and Personal Development which will equip them with the skills and knowledge to achieve employment.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
For the most part assessment is via portfolios of work, assignment and written tests.
Additional Costs
50% of your hairdressing kit.
