Course Overview

This Level 2 Apprenticeship will provide you with the skills and knowledge of Electronic Security and Emergency systems to install security systems - you can specialise in anything from intruder alarms to fire detection.

This qualification is suitable for anyone who needs to work with security systems, including CCTV.

This level 2 is ideal if you have some knowledge and basic skills in the security and emergency sector and want to increase your broad knowledge and your skills working with a particular type of system.

Modules may include:

Mandatory Modules

  • Electrical and electronic principles of electro technology
  • Working effectively and safely in electro technical environments


Optional units

  • Access control systems
  • Intruder alarm systems
  • Closed circuit television systems (CCTV)
  • Fire detection and alarm systems
  • Electronic article surveillance systems

Entry Requirements

You need to:

Be between the ages of 16 and 24.

Have a minimum of 5 GCSEs including at least grade D in English and Maths.

Have secured an employer, although the college will assist you to secure one. If you do not have an employer now, you should still apply.

If you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or ICT you will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT.

Where will it take me?
This course will provide you with the qualifications and skills that will lead directly onto a Level 3 Apprenticeship, it can also lead to employment within the Security Industry.
How will it make me more employable?
Upon successful completion of this level 2 Apprenticeship you will be qualified to install and maintain security systems, it could also help you commission security systems.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?

The lecturers will use a variety of assessment methods e.g. observation of your work, oral and written assessment and on-line tests.

Some of the assessments will be on your work in college and some will be on the work you complete in the work place.

Your Lecturers will give you feedback and guidance on your assessments as they are completed.
