Course Overview
The course aims to develop practical skills and knowledge essential to your job in polymer processing.  
Subjects studied will include:
 • Polymer processing and related operations or performing engineering operations
 • Polymer NVQ Level 3 units
 • Technical certificate i.e. BTEC National Certificate in Polymer Processing and Materials Technology which covers units in basic polymer technology
 • ICT and MIS in the polymer industry
 • Introductory science for polymer technicians
 • Mathematics and statistics for polymer technicians
 • Health, safety and welfare
 • Plastics processing
 • Polymer science
 • Quality assurance and control
You will study Essential Skills at Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy, unless exempt through appropriate GCSE grades C in Maths and English, and IT Key Skills.
Entry Requirements
You must be employed in the polymer manufacturing or processing industry and hold the level 2 Apprenticeship.
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of this course can enable you to go directly to work as a polymer production technician, manufacturing production controller, polymer technologist or quality control inspector. If you progress to Higher Education courses, which are widely available throughout the College, you may be eligible for technical and managerial roles within polymer companies.  
This is a unique course in Northern Ireland equipping you to work in this field.
How will it make me more employable?
As an Apprentice you will be with your employer 4 days a week in Years 1 and 2 of the programme, then on a full time basis until all elements of the Apprenticeship are completed.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Assessment is as prescribed by the awarding bodies for the Technical Certificate and NVQ.
