Life Skills

Life Skills is a part-time course designed for students with learning disabilities.

Course Overview

Life Skills is a part-time course designed for students with learning disabilities ranging from Entry 2 to Level 1.

This programme provides students with the confidence and skills to gain confidence in the community and boost their social experiences.  

This course will involve working towards a City and Guilds qualification in Employability and Personal Development. There is an attendance commitment of 18 hours per week for this course.

MENCAP support some our students throughout this course.

Confirmation of a place on the course cannot be made until Special Educational Needs evidence is provided.  

On provision of appropriate evidence and completion of a taster session, more details regarding student timetables and confirmation of a place on the programme will be forwarded to parents/guardians.

This should be available before the end of the June, however, timetables are subject to change up to the start of September.


Modules covered may include:

Attitudes and values

Rights and responsibilities and citizenship

Entry Requirements
Evidence of learning difficulty/disability e.g. letter from doctor/social worker. No other formal qualifications are required.  
Where will it take me?
On this course you will study towards completing units of the City and Guilds Employability and Personal Development programme. Successful completion could help you progress onto other courses in the college.
How will it make me more employable?
The course provides students with the confidence and social skills to enable work placements in either the voluntary or private sector.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Assessment is through continual attendance and coursework working through units at an individual's pace.
