Course Overview

NVQ Level 3 Spa Therapy will give you the opportunity to gain a broader knowledge of Beauty Therapy and Spa Therapy treatments. This will enable you to have a better career choice. This is a very intensive programme and requires commitment and home study to enable you to successfully complete the programme in one year.


Modules may include:



  • Monitor clients and the operation of sauna, steam and hydrotherapy treatments
  • Provide body wrapping and flotation treatments
  • Provide body massage treatments
  • Provide stone therapy treatments
  • Promote additional services or products to customers
  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Provide Indian Head Massage
  • Provide Facial Electrical Treatments

Optional: (your tutor will inform you of the optional units to be completed)

  • Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
  • Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

You will complete work experience in the College’s commercial beauty salon.


You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve employability.

You will be required to attend essential skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE in English, Maths and IT.


The full-time course will be timetabled over 21 hours per week ie - 15 hours of vocational classes, 3 hours per week employability training and 3 hours per week Essential skills English and Maths.

Entry Requirements

NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy or equivalent.


You will be required to complete an Interview and Skills test for this course

Where will it take me?

This course can lead directly to careers in a Day Spa or Health Spa, Cruise Ship or Beauty Salon, further study at a higher level 5, HND in Beauty Management which will lead to jobs such as lecturing/training posts or management positions in the Beauty Therapy/Spa Therapy.

How will it make me more employable?
As a full time student you will ‘Get the Edge’ by:
• Gaining a vocational qualification demonstrating your technical competence
• Gaining a Personal Development qualification demonstrating your employability skills (communication, teamwork, critical thinking)
• Gaining hands on experience through Placements and Industry Projects

This course will help you succeed in a highly competitive job market by developing the skills and knowledge which employers need you to have.


Spa is an exceptionally growing industry and this course will ensure you have the qualifications to gain employment in Beauty Salons, Day Spas and Health Spas.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
You will be assessed on your competence in each skills area by observation in the Salon, case studies, oral and written examination. You will be required to develop your own client base.
Additional Costs
You will be required to provide your own uniform and kit.  Details of cost will be provided by the course tutor.
