Course Overview

This course provides you with the relevant professional training, education and qualifications to become a beauty therapist. It is particularly suitable if you are interested in massage, electrical treatments and aromatherapy.  This is a very intensive course that requires commitment and home study to enable you to successfully complete the programme in 1 year.


Units will include:



  • Provide body electrical treatments
  • Provide facial electrical treatments
  • Provide body massage treatments
  • Provide electrical epilation treatments
  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
  • Optional: (your tutor will inform you of the optional units to be completed)
  • Provide Indian head massage
  • Carry out massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
  • Provide self-tanning services
  • Provide stone therapy treatments

If you are a full-time student you will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths or Computing


The full-time course will be timetabled over 21 hours per week ie - 15 hours of vocational classes, 3 hours per week employability training and 3 hours per week Essential skills English and Maths.


Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements: NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy or equivalent.


You will be required to complete an Interview and Skills Test for this course

Where will it take me?

After successful completion of the course, you may progress to work in a beauty salon, spa or onboard a cruise-liner.  You may also take further study in holistic therapies. 


Alternatively you can undertake a Level 5 beauty qualification, such as a HND in Beauty Therapy or Holistic Therapies.

How will it make me more employable?

If you are a full-time student you will ‘Get the Edge’ by:


• Gaining a vocational qualification demonstrating your technical competence
• Gaining a Personal Development qualification demonstrating your employability skills (communication, teamwork, critical thinking)
• Gaining hands on experience through Placements and Industry Projects
• Getting involved in activities such as the SERC Volunteer Programme and SERC Student Companies.


This course will help you succeed in a highly competitive job market by developing the skills and knowledge which employers need you to have.

You will complete work experience in the College’s commercial beauty salon.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
This will be achieved through the assessment of competence in each skills area by observation in the commercial salon, case studies, oral and written examinations.
Additional Costs
You will be required to purchase a uniform and a kit.  Your tutor will inform you of the cost for these.
