Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism (OG)

SERC is excited to present the newly launched Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism, designed to give students the knowledge and skills that are required to work in the travel and tourism industry, delivered over 2 years.

Course Overview

The programme consists of a total of 12 units to include 3 compulsory units: The UK Travel and Tourism Industry, Preparing for a Career in Travel and Tourism and Customer Service.   A further 9 units will be selected with a focus on the skills and knowledge required to work within travel and tourism. These modules may include: Investigating Airline Cabin Crew, UK Visitor Attractions, Travel Agency Operations, Travel and Tourism Destinations, Resort Representative Responsibilities, Marketing and Tour Guiding.

Class learning will be supplemented with the use of guest speakers and visits to local travel, tourism and hospitality providers.

Entry Requirements
All applicants will be required to attend an interview with a member of the course team to demonstrate their suitability for the programme. Additionally, prospective students need to have at least 4 GCSEs grades C or above, preferably to include grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent), as pre-defined by SERC’s admissions policy.   Students without GCSE English/ Maths/ICT will be required to attend Essential Skills in these areas and may be offered GCSE during their course of study.
Where will it take me?
Completion of this course could lead to a career within the travel and tourism, hospitality or events and previous students have gained employment with airlines, travel agencies, visitor attractions and hotels. Awarded at pass, merit and distinction levels, the course carries UCAS points that could enable learners to progress to further studies in higher education, broadly equivalent to two A Levels.
How will it make me more employable?
You will ‘Get the Edge’ by: • Gaining a vocational qualification demonstrating your technical competence• Gaining a Personal Development qualification demonstrating your employability skills (communication, teamwork, critical thinking)• Gaining hands on experience through Placements and Industry Projects• Getting involved in activities such as the SERC Volunteer Programme and SERC Student Companies. Examples of units that can be undertaken include; time management, team work skills and healthy living. This course will help you succeed in a highly competitive job market by developing the skills and knowledge which employers need you to have.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Students may be assessed using methods such as group work, presentations, written reports, class tests and role plays.
