Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical. Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up


This 1 year course has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques.

Course Overview

This 1 year course has an emphasis on developing your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques within the theatrical and performing arts sector.
 
Modules studied may include:
 
  • Media, special effects and camouflage make-up,
  • How to apply ready-made small prosthetic pieces and bald caps,
  • Design and apply face and body art,
  • Media make-up,
  • Styling and dressing hair,
  • Style and fit a postiche
  • How to apply the complex skill of airbrush make-up.

You will be required to attend at least 6 SERC arranged external events throughout the year.  This will help you gain experience and links within the industry.

 

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability.

You'll Learn:

how to do special effects and camouflage make-up, face and body art, media make-up, styling hair and airbrush make-up and how to provide Hair & Makeup services in the Media, Theatre, Performing Arts and Fashion and photographic industries.

You'll Love:

working at external events such as in the Grand Opera House, Space Theatre, Web Theatre and various fashion shows across the province, helping you gain experience and links within the industry.

You'll Need:

4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related area, and successful outcome at audition/interview

 

ADDITIONAL COSTS

Students on this course are required to wear a uniform which consists of a SERC hoodie and tshirt.   One or other must be worn at events so that they are easily distinguished between other students.  The hoodies are £25 and tshirts are £15 Students will also need to purchase their own specialist make up kit - price is approx. £350 but details will be confirmed within the first week.
